I think I may have shaken off the "blues" enough to focus my concentration on finishing "The Cryptoterrestrials" -- that is, if my neighbor can cool it on the high-volume rap music.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, "The Cryptoterrestrials" is a book I'm writing about our continuing search for aliens in all the wrong places. It has a publisher, but I'm reluctant to send it off until I'm satisfied with it. So don't be too surprised if activity on this blog falls off while I'm hard at "work."

(Yes, I know I've made similar warnings in the past, all to no real avail. Ignore those.)

WMB--

FINISH. THE. BOOK.

You said it. I just received a generous and unexpected offer from an author you might know to write an introduction; that kind of lit a fire under me.

Null--

Thanks! Thanksgiving was ... filling. I broke my vegetarian vows and are some turkey. Not bad.

That's a pretty good one of the Villas-Boas woman/ alien. Where did you find it? There is another one somewhere, maybe in one of the Greg Little books. That one's pretty hot too.

You have a publisher for the book, right? I know this isn't going to be very convincing, but try not to write do everything at the last minute. I always do, and squeak by, but various niggling important things fall off the table and it's usually too late to add them. Better yet, hope that the editor gave you a deadline that's about a month or two before they actually need it.

I don't know if you mentioned this before, but is your book going to discuss the Fortean concept of "We are property."? I find it interesting that the word "genius" can be defined as "the guardian spirit of a place" and is also a synonym for "jinn."

Eric Frank Russell used the "property" concept in his SF novel, "Sinister Barrier." In that story living globes of energy, Vitons, were psychic vampires, feeding off the emotions of their unsuspecting human cattle. After all, what do cryptos do all day, especially if their movement is limited and they have to remain hidden? Maybe we provide entertainment, a few thrills, at least on a vicarious level.

Maybe the "Genii" keep warding off contact from Out There. Sometimes an UFO sighting is evidence of an attempt by beings beyond our world taking a quick look before they're chased away.

Just some speculation for you to kick around.

Good luck with the writing.

Best,

Ray

Some case-study site I found on Google. There's another illustration there, I think.

I've got a publisher but no deadline. I'm taking my time on this -- which is probably all-too-evident for longtime readers of this blog! :-)

Ray,

I'm definitely gonna use Fort's quote. There are some interesting possibilities re. the so-called Fermi "paradox" that I intend on playing with. For example, we can't automatically discount the possibility of a previous civilization on Earth that managed to accomplish interplanetary flight. If that happened, where might they be today? And what would they be up to?
