Dark Caverns Discovered on Mars

When I first saw this image, I thought it was some kind of joke, or Photoshop trick. But nope, this is real. NASA's Mars Reconnaissance orbiter has returned images of strange cavern entrances on Mars.

There are all sorts of possibilities, all of them startling. Perhaps the least exciting prospect is that these are perforations leading into deep caverns. But if they're caverns, how extensive are they? Could they have served (or still serve) as reservoirs for water and, possibly, havens for life . . . ?

Hi...
I'm so pleased to see someone else paying attention to this story. It has appeared on a few internet sites- without comment. It's at least a week ago that I 1st read about it (more like several weeks, really), yet no one seems to be excited about this intriguing mystery + the possibilities- other than you + I.

You'd think those interested in anomalies, space, UFOs, alt. science + history, etc. would notice a story of this potential significance, but no...I only recently began listening to an international radio show that deals with these
subjects nightly, but have heard nothing from hosts, guests or callers.

Is it that people have become so confused by movies + TV that nothing phases them? Do they just lump Fiction + Reality together? This worries me, because it seems true in all areas- government + politics, science vs. propaganda, truth + lies. I think we've failed to teach the young how to think for themselves, to recognize propaganda, separate fact from fiction + to have sensible priorities...And we're already paying for it. I fear it will get worse.

nancy -- I totally agree!

So what is it? Scientists think it’s some kind of chamber with a collapsed roof, or pit with extremely vertical sides. Whatever the case, it’s quite surprising to see. -- From the article

Hmmmmm. The hole in the picture with the article looks circular and may have vertical sides descending deep enough down that the hole is entirely black, that is, dark.... Stay with me here. In general, when this type of shaft is seen on earth, what does it suggest? To me, at least, since it is clearly not a crater, this type of anomaly suggests, shall we say, certain NON-geological processes. If, in addition, 7 or 8 similar holes have been photographed....

I'm not ruling out artificiality.
